Abstract
A forceps modified on the scheme of a torquewrench is described. The instrument allows quantitative assessment of the normal resistance and of abnormal restrictions which confront the eye muscles as they rotate the eye. The instrument also allows quantitative assessment of the active muscle force available for the task. Two cases illustrate how such information helped to guide strabismus surgery. Other applications are discussed. Keywords
