Abstract
Comparison of the efficacy of complete and incomplete adjuvant in enhancing allergenicity of bovine albumin in mice revealed no significant difference. Animals were sensitized with 0.1 mg bovine albumin admixed with water-in-oil emulsion containing Mycobacterium butyricum (complete adjuvant) or lacking acid-fast bacilli (incomplete adjuvant). Challenges were made with 0.2 ml of 1% bovine albumin in 0.85% NaCl solution. Response measures were mortality incidence and change in rectal temperature. Mice sensitized with 0.1 mg bovine albumin incorporated into complete adjuvant showed anaphylactic reactivity when challenged 28 days postsensitization with as little as 0.01 mg bovine albumin. Mice sensitized in a similar manner exhibited signs of anaphylaxis as long as 196 days postsensitization when challenged with 2 mg bovine albumin. Keywords
