Abstract
N. vibrissa Moore et Meyers and D. marina Doguet are the only homobasidiomycetes known to occur in the marine environment (Kohlmeyer and Kohlmeyer, 1971a). Both species were collected from intertidal wood found along the shore during low tide at Point Judith, Rhode Island [USA], during 1971, 1972, and 1973. Cultures established from these collections provided an opportunity to examine the ultrastructure of the hyphal septa, which to date have not been studied. The similarity of the dolipore spetum in these 2 known marine homobasidiomycetes to that found in the large group of terrestrial basidiomycetes, offers evidence, at least for the basidiomycetes, that the marine lignicolous fungi have recently evolved from terrestrial ancestors. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
