Marine geology of Slyne Ridge

Abstract
New seismic reflection profiles plus recent gravity and magnetic data suggest that the Slyne Ridge contains three continuous sub-Cenozoic grabens developed along Caledonoid faults. Two of these faults may connect with the offshore line of the Great Glen Fault, but the third, which also seems to have influenced the structural development of the north Seabight Trough, runs ENE towards the fault convergence of Achill––Clew Bay, Co. Mayo. The grabens contain a gently folded succession and represent a more accurate realization of the structure previously named the Slyne Trough; they may originate in regional Triassic rifting.
