Abstract
Cardiac glycogen levels in goldfish were detd. at (1) the time of circulatory-respiratory collapse, (2) the time of recovery from acute symptoms of anoxia and restoration of the respiratory reflexes and (3) 3, 6, 12 and 24 hrs. after recovery from an acute anoxic episode. Cardiac glycogen of the control group averaged 2325 mg./100 g. of cardiac tissue; the highest normal value yet reported for any vertebrate. The heart glycogen may be decreased by 89% during exposure to anoxia. Six hrs. after recovery from this critical depletion the cardiac glycogen was restored, virtually to normal. Keywords
