Abstract
A procedure has been developed for studying the simple kinetic in vitro relationships between Eastern equine encephalomyelitis and a fluorescein dye, 2,7-diiodotetraiodofluorescein. The exptl. conditions for the dye-virus mixtures were varied with respect to time, pH, temp, and protein content of diluent. The activity of such mixtures was measured by the intracerebral injn. of serial dilutions into mice. Since a marked degree of inactivation occurred after 3 hrs. of incubation at room temp. (22-24C), pH 8, this technic. was used as a screening procedure for other compounds, and provided a simple method for determining the effect of chemical structure upon virus protein under standard in vitro conditions. Six simple resorcinols and 8 fluorescein dyes were screened by this technic. Keywords
