Demonstrability of a Serum Factor Inducing Thrombocytosis Prior to Acute Rises of Platelets in Mice and Men

Abstract
It is demonstrated that a thrombocytosis-inducing activity is exerted by sera prior to various acute rises in the platelet count of both mice and human patients. Five different types of acute thrombocytosis of the mouse were tested and four types were investigated in humans. The results were unequivocal. It may be assumed that a thrombocytopoietic plasma factor is in some way involved in the restoration of normal thrombo-cytopoiesis or in the development of acute transitory thrombocytosis of various origin. In accordance with previous results it is suggested that this plasma factor is specific in nature.
