Abstract
The psychological factors affecting mental retardation were studied in 715 children. The various factors included social class, economic conditions, parental stimulation, emotional deprivation, interpersonal problems in the family, and psychic stress. Both psychological and organic factors must be considered in order to avoid faulty diagnosis and incomplete treatment. Keywords
