Kinetic Evaluation of Haemostasis during Surgery and Wound Healing

Abstract
Summary. This study indicates that platelets and fibrinogen are utilized following surgery as a physiological response to tissue injury. The amount and duration of the consumption of haemostatic components is related to the extent of the surgical injury. In vivo counting demonstrates localized accumulation of radioactively tagged platelets and fibrinogen in the surgical wound that proceeds for several days. It is concluded that this consumption reflects the participation of the haemostatic apparatus in wound healing.
