Abstract
The ionic environment is vital to the excitability of neurons. Action of anticonvulsant drugs on the passage of ions through the cell membrane has been shown to be an important general mechanism by which many of these agents exert their seizure-suppressing effects. Considerable interest in the function and structure of ion channels in excitable membranes has developed in recent years, and a voluminous literature on this subject is available. 1-5
