Abstract
The cultural characteristics of the atypical acid-fast organism, "yellow bacillus", are described. Large doses of this organism did not produce progressive disease in guinea pigs, chickens, and rabbits, but produced a progressive fatal disease in the Syrian golden hamster. Cortisone administration increased the severity of the disease in the hamster, but had little or no effect on guinea pigs, rabbits, and chickens.
