Abstract
By a simple method the inclination of the axes is derived from the asymmetry in the observed total area, independently of any assumptions concerning the rate of foreshortening. The inclination found amounts to 0°.44 for all spots, 4°.3 and 6°.8 for long-lived spots of 13 and 14 days' duration, 7°.6 for recurrent spots. Keywords
