Abstract
Monchick's theory of the probability of reaction between two particles in each other's potential field while a scavenger is present, was used to study the scavenging of ions formed in dielectric liquids by high‐energy radiation. The ions originating in a track of a fast electron are formed in groups. Only reaction of the last pair in each group, after recombination of the others, has been considered. The distribution of separations of the last pairs in a track of a 1‐MeV electron in hexane has been estimated from conductivity measurements, by applying Onsager's theory of the probability of recombination of an ion pair. This distribution was used to calculate the concentration dependence of the yield of reaction of the ions with a scavenger. The calculated concentration dependence was compared with several experimental results from the literature. Keywords
