Electron-density profiles from laser scattering

Abstract
The electron density as a function of position within a plasma jet has been determined by measurements of the coherent scattering of laser light. The electron-density profiles thus obtained are compared with those obtained from spectroscopic measurements. It is shown that the width of the satellites observed in earlier work may be accounted for by the electron-density gradients.
