Abstract
In 1980. the National Park Service stabilized 34 Sand Papago graves at Quitobaquito in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Prior to this, data were collected on those interred there by interviewing their relatives and surviving Sand Papagos. This information and the physical evidence at the cemetery was used to determine the age of the cemetery (a.d. 1900-1945) and social variables associated with mortuary activities. Limitations to such inferences have implications for the general study of mortuary remains. Keywords
