Abstract
For a select group of patients orthotopic bladder substitution is an ideal alternative for urinary diversion after cystectomy. Initially this method was mainly applied in males, but is increasingly being used in women with good results. In general, consensus has been reached concerning patient selection criteria and surgical details, but there are some important issues of continuing debate. To achieve good long-term results meticulous postoperative patient management is of utmost importance. Keywords
