Abstract
A number of observational results including the recent detection of optical pulses from the Vela pulsar appear to conflict with the usual interpretation of pulsar interpulses as radiation from the opposite pole of a basically dipolar magnetic field. An alternative model in which main pulses and interpulses originate from the same pole is proposed and compared with the observational data. Keywords
