Abstract
SUMMARY: The state of neurolept‐analgesia, as induced by haloperidol and phenoperidine, has been studied in serial EEG recordings in seven patients. Phenoperidine produced general analgesia and severe respiratory depression, but consciousness was preserved, as demonstrated by typical waking EEG records with alpha activity, in all patients thus studied. Since the mechanisms controlling wakefulness and those controlling respiration are closely associated, the splitting phenomenon revealed by these studies is pharmacologically unique and of neurophysiological interest.ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der Zustand der Neurolept‐Analgesie, herbeigeführt durrh Haloperidol und Phenoperidin, war Gegenstand einer Serien‐EEG‐Untersuchung an 7 Patienten. Keywords
