Space-charge dominated heavy ion beams in Electrostatic Quadrupole (ESQ) Accelerators

Abstract
This paper summarizes the beam dynamics aspects of the Electrostatic Quadrupole (ESQ) Accelerator that have been learned with the pulsed 2MV, 800mA singly charged potassium ion injector. This machine was bulit through the U.S. Heavy Ion Fusion Program at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for feasibility studies of a fusion driver‐scale high current injector. Experimental results, theory, and simulations are presented.
