A scale to measure the humanistic attitudes of social work students

Abstract
This article describes the development of a forty-Kern attitude scale designed to tap the Ideological positions of social work students. A matrix, based on a conceptual framework for operationalizing value/attitude statements, was constructed to guide the selection of Items. On a Likert scale, 150 Items were pretested and the responses were subjected to factor analyses. Four subscales emerged, and this revised scale was administered to 128 graduate social work students. When the reliability coefficients for the original scale and the shortened form were compared, the results were mixed but moderate.
