Abstract
Studies on 32 patients with and without thyroid disease have disclosed that the basal heat production is directly proportional to the log of the protein-bound plasma I, according to the . expression basal heat production = 52.3 log (I)[long dash]0.8 calories/ square meter/hr. This relationship is valid after lugoliza-tion and after thyroidectomy. However, for about 24 hrs. immediately after surgery there is a temporary rise in plasma protein-bound I that is not reflected by a rise in the basal heat production. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
