Abstract
Considering only collisions of the ``billiard ball'' type the total retention is obtained as a sum of partial retentions for an infinite number of collisions. Expressions are derived which give the retention as a function of the initial energy of the recoil atom. The calculation shows that it is not possible to determine the initial recoil energy by the retention. Keywords
