Maternal Heart Volume and Prematurity

Abstract
The cardiac volume of 300 patients was measured radiographically during the prenatal period and correlated with the incidences of prematurity and fetal birth weight. Those patients with the small heart sizes had the greatest incidences of premature labor and their infants were under average birth weight. Those patients found to have a larger than average heart size had a minimal incidence of premature labor and these infants were of more than average birth weight.
