Abstract
Resistance plasmids (22) belonging to 14 incompatibility groups were transferred by conjugation into 2 sensitive strains of V. cholerae eltor. Only 5 plasmids were stably inherited in these strains: 4 of these belong to group incC and 1 to group incJ. All other plasmids were lost at high frequency when the bacteria were grown in drug-free medium. These facts might explain why very few multiresistant strains of V. cholerae were isolated so far but do not exclude the possibility that epidemics (in humans) of V. cholerae carrying peculiar R plasmids might be observed in the future. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
