Mental Health Center Services for the Elderly: The Impact of Coordination with Area Agencies on Aging

Abstract
Coordination between Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) and Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) was examined through a survey of 281 CMHCs. Affiliation with an AAA was associated with more indirect services of all types, more sites where mental health programs were offered to the elderly, and more provision of direct services such as Alzheimer's disease treatment and management, family support, and respite. These centers also had a 31% higher caseload of those age 60 or older.
