Abstract
A rapid-frequency-scan dye laser has been developed for instantaneous determination of resonance line profiles of atoms in large plasma devices. A new technique is proposed for the local magnetic field measurement inside plasmas using this laser system. Various Zeeman patterns of sodium D lines are observed with an atomic beam in the magnetic field in a single laser shot, and the absolute magnetic-field intensity and the field direction are quantitatively determined from these patterns. Keywords
