Participation of Adrenal Cortex in Alterations in Carbohydrate Metabolism Produced by Epinephrine.

Abstract
The effects of subcut. epinephrine (0.02 mg./1.00 g. body wt.) on fasted adrenalectomized and normal rats with and without cortical hormone supplements have been studied. The adrenalectomized rats show a twofold greater loss of muscle glycogen than do intact rats, and little or no increase in liver glycogen. Conse-quently there is a sixfold greater disappearance of carbohydrate from the body that is not accounted for. The injn. of large quantities of adrenal cortical extract brings about a restoration of the carbohydrate balance to normal.
