Abstract
The freezing temperature of H2SO4 aqueous solutions as a function of concentration was experimentally measured in an investigation of the ice nucleation of natural H2SO4 mixed aerosols. Based on these measurements, it is suggested that the formation of ice crystals in cirrus and polar stratospheric clouds is the result of the condensation of water vapor and subsequent freezing of natural H2SO4 aerosols.
