Abstract
This article proposes that there are six major components of hospice nursing; individualization of care, availability of the nurse, patient-family control, anticipatory care, symptom control, rapid, effective nursing involvement, and interdisciplinary interactions. Each component is explored and a variety of research questions are posed in an attempt to identify the basis for the practice of hospice nursing. Keywords
