Abstract
The diphenylseleninic anhydride oxidation of 3-isochromanone gives the new 3,4-isochromandione with a 70% yield. This reaction allows the preparation with excellent yields of the unreported 2-hydroxymethyl-pne-nylglyoxylic acid and related substances, obtained through reduction. Keywords
