Abstract
The development, approval, and publication of standards is an important means by which IEEE meets its responsibilities as a technical and professional society. Standards are used as a basis for federal regulations, agreements between supplies and purchasers, international trade, and for physical and data interfaces. This paper attempts to present the scope of the IEEE Standards activities, the organization of the IEEE Standards Board, and the procedures to be followed in the process of initiating, generating, and obtaining approval for an IEEE standards document.
