Photochemically inudced chelate ring expansion and hydrolysis reactions: X-ray crystal structures of [W{PPh2OC(Ph)CHPPh2}(CO)4] and [W(PPh2OH)(PPh2CH2COPh)(CO)4]

Abstract
Light of intensity normally found in a laboratory transforms the 4-membered ring chelate [W{PPh2CH(COPh)PPh2}(CO)4] into the 6-membered ring chelate [W{PPh2OC(Ph)CHPPh2}(CO)4] and thence into a hydrolysis product [W(PPh2OH)(PPh2CH2COPh)(CO)4]; neither reaction occurs in the absence of light.
