Abstract
The composition of the fatty acids attached at the [alpha]- and [beta]-positions of the serum lecithin and the fatty acids of lysolecithin of pigs suffering from essential-fatty acid deficiency have been examined. About 95% of the eicosatrienoic acid and arachidonic acid in lecithin was located at the [beta]-position of the molecule. It is concluded that the increased turnover rate of lecithins in essential-fatty acid deficiency cannot be explained by the eicosatrienoic acid being attached to the lecithin at a position different from that of arachidonic acid. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
