Characterization of Three Homogeneous Canine Immunoglobulins

Abstract
Three homogeneous immunoglobulins were isolated from the serum or urine of three dogs with plasma cell dyscrasias. Antigenic and physicochemical characterization of the proteins showed that one was a macroglobulin, a second a γA myeloma paraprotein, and the third a Bence Jones protein. The proteins were characterized by physical, chemical and immunologic analysis and compared with human immunoglobulins, as well as with a previously studied canine macroglobulin. The studies confirmed the production of myeloma paraproteins by certain dogs with plasma cell dyscrasias and suggested their suitability for further elucidating the nature of canine immunoglobulins. In addition, such pure proteins should prove useful for comparative amino acid sequence analyses with human and murine myeloma proteins.
