Abstract
The possible association between coronary artery disease risk factors and drusen was examined in 149 Jewish adults, of both sexes and from different ethnic origins, aged 55 years and above. Areas of drusen were examined 5° and 25° around the macula. Risk factors were examined according to standard procedure used by Lipid Research Clinics. Statistical analysis, including comparison of groups with and without drusen by Student’s t test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and step-wise multiple regression analysis, showed similar associations. The multiple regression showed a significant association between drusen and diastolic blood pressure in both males and females and association with glucose only in females. Keywords
