Mortality of Adult Stable Flies 12

Abstract
Survival curves for adult stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), held at selected temperatures in the laboratory, tended to be linear: higher temperatures reduced the avg and maximum life. A comparison of these data to field data for length of adult life indicated that a portion of stable-fly mortality was dependent on age, which resulted in the linear survival curves and a uniform probability distribution for life. In simulated field tests, much of the mortality was independent of age, which resulted in an exponential probability distribution for life. The 2 types of mortality were both described in a single model.
