Abstract
Two basic methods of planning replacements in a program of preventive maintenance are described: (1) age replacement and (2) block replacement. The objective is to provide an introduction to some of the basic concepts of probability theory as they can be applied to problems of preventive maintenance—an area of statistical application that has become known as replacement theory. Keywords
