Abstract
The cross-cultural context provides an opportunity to practice highly skilled perspective taking, an occupational necessity for counselors. It also teaches one about American culture, because at home one cannot "see the forest for the trees." In addition, the Fulbright program is an excellent choice for counseling psychologists because its value base—seeking world peace through international exchange—is highly congruent with the values of counseling psychologists. Keywords
