Social capital and mental health

Abstract
Social capital is a term that has recently gained popularity. It refers to the public good that results from mutually supportive social relationships. Mental health can be defined as the state of balance that individuals establish within themselves and between themselves and their social and physical environment. The article describes the relationship between the two and demonstrates that an increase of social capital supports mental health and that the promotion of mental health and its improvement (as well as the successful treatment of mental disorders) contributes to the growth of social capital.
