Increase in Oxygen Uptake After Small Ethanol Doses in Man

Abstract
It has generally been concluded from earlier work that ethanol has little or no effect on oxygen uptake in man. The present experiments were made on 7 healthy young men. Oxygen uptake was determined before and after intake of a small ethanol dose (0.3 g/kg) and in control experiments without ethanol. The oxygen uptake was moderately increased 20–50 min after intake of ethanol. No concomitant increases in respiratory rate, heart rate or general motor activity were seen.Keywords
