Abstract
As aircraft and missiles have been successfully evolving both in mobility and RCS reduction, higher detection capability and higher search and track data-rates are required by air defence radar. This paper describes today's issues in air defence radar and discusses a cylindrical active phased array radar as the best solution to these issues. Operational advantages of the cylindrical active phased array radar are discussed. An overview of the recently developed cylindrical active phased array for tactical air defence is presented. Future perspectives of the new type of radar is also described.
