Abstract
A solution of the boundary value problem posed by Fleischmann and Thirsk is presented here for a generalized time dependence of η(t), the overpotential. The results for various techniques have been derived. Expressions for the transients have also been obtained. The formulations reported earlier for the potentiostatic, the faradaic impedance, and the galvanostatic techniques are deduced as special cases. It has also been shown that in the 'potential step method' a relatively simple relationship exists between the first and the second over-potentials.Keywords
