Development and Transfer of Attentional Habits

Abstract
Fourth grade children were differentially reinforced for shifting their attention to animal figures in an identification task. During this inital phase of the experiment 16 fourth grade girls looked more and more often between trials to the area where the figures which were more frequently reinforced were located. In a subsequent search task Ss were able to locate figures which were frequently reinforced more rapidly than those which were infrequently reinforced.
