Stellar Rotations Observed with a Spectracon

Abstract
The rotational velocities of some stars in the Praesepe cluster were compared with those of stars in the Hyades cluster by means of spectrograms obtained with a spectracon installed in the coudé spectrograph of the 100-inch telescope on Mount Wilson. The spectracon is an electronographic image tube developed at the Imperial College, London. It has a photo-emissive cathode at the input end and an electron-permeable Lenard window at the output end. The present paper includes a description of the equipment and its performance. A comparison is shown with similar spectra obtained by unaided photography in the coudé spectrograph at Palomar. A more nearly complete discussion of rotational velocities will appear elsewhere.
