Abstract
Assays for avidin made by the yeast growth method of Eakin showed it to be present in demonstrable quantities in oviducts of hens and frogs as well in the white of hens'' eggs and in the frog jelly. It was also found in the whites of eggs of turkeys, geese and ducks. The avidin is probably a secretory product of the oviduct of birds and amphibia and may be an important factor in embryonic development.
