Isolation and the Symptoms of Chronic Brain Syndrome

Abstract
A literature review of internal and external changes on the mental and emotional status of elderly persons reveals physical, social, and emotional isolation to be the key intervening variables which disclose functional symptoms of mental disorders. Since organic pathologies of the brain are not the sole determinant of functional disorder, treatment modalities counteracting isolation will alleviate or reverse the symptomatic disorders whether or not brain pathologies due to aging are present.
