Abstract
Accurate information concerning the height of wave run-up on composite beaches is needed for the determination of crest elevation for various engineering structures. The validity of Saville's method for determining wave run-up on composite beaches was experimentally tested in the laboratory for the case of long horizontal berm. The results indicate that there is little agreement between the method and the actual run-up when the ratio of length of berm to wave length is greater than 0.15. Visual observations indicate that in case of long horizontal berms, the run-up greatly depends on whether or not a slug of water had set-up on the berm. Keywords
