End-user computing: determinants of user behavior

Abstract
A framework describing the presumed determinants of end-user behavior is proposed. It is based on case studies in various organizations, an in-depth field study in public accounting firms, and a review of relevant literature. The framework, comprised of a work context, an individual context, and a social context, suggests the mechanisms by which users are influenced to begin, stop or continue using end-user tools. The framework helps practitioners to identify leverage points and blind spots in the ways in which end-user computing is promoted within their organizations.
