Abstract
Shiver-ing on exposure to cold was abolished in dogs and cats by insulin hypoglycemia. Glucose, dihydroxyacetone, fructose, mannose, galactose maltose, adrenalin, and pituitrin were effective in restoring the capacity for shivering. Sucrose and lactose were effective in some cases. The disaccharides used were inactive as such, and the induction of shivering following their administration is due to products of their hydrolysis. The monosaccharides enumerated above, and maltose, abolished insulin convulsions in cats. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
