Abstract
The increased interest in the nature and extent of telework and home-based employment by both the public and private sectors reflects its potential impact on economic development. While this shift in employment patterns is speculated to have a considerable influence on patterns of daily life, the planning and design of residential communities have not for the most part recognized this occurrence This paper defines these forms of work, discusses their impact on homes and communities and offers suggestions for new planning responses that are needed to meet the current challenges and reconceptualizations of work
